Peace in the Fire

John 16:33

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

The world is in a crazy state. Politicians, bankers, billionaires, and members of our ruling class are hiding the truth. In time, God will judge us, and in time, the truth will come out. It’s so hard to keep up with what is real and what is not — what we want to believe versus what is actually true. It’s enough to make any sane person lose their head. Truth be told, my life feels just as confusing as what I’m seeing in the world today.

I am not really okay, but I know I will be. My God has already won — not in a vengeful way, but in a beautiful way where we can all join in that victory. I want things to be true in my life. I want to believe in certain things — or more precisely, certain people. The truth, though, is that what I want to believe is not my real reality. The expectations and hope I place in people will never fully be met.

The good news is that my trust in God is not in vain. It serves me and never harms me. I am taken care of — more than taken care of. Even in my despair and confusion, God lends me His peace.

Now more than ever, I pray intently for Your peace. I feel as if I require little else but to understand that You have won for me. I know the prize You offer — which I do not deserve — is not rooted in this world, but in the world to come.

Please continue to lend me Your peace. I pray for all the earth and for all believers, that You would touch us with a peace that can quiet our minds and ease our hearts.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
